The last few weeks have been as if someone dropped a bomb on our house full of germs and we are only now coming out of almost 3 weeks of perpetual sickness. It all started with Eli who woke up a few weeks ago with pink eye and an ear infection...he was fine the day before and then the next day we were at the doctor. He was home for a few days recovering but looking at him, you never would have figured he was sick. Then I got sick with the worst cold I've had in years. Then 2 days later, Alan got the cold with different symptoms. Then the nanny got sick a day later with a terrible throat and ear infection and was out for days. Then two days after the nanny went home sick, our wonderful helper (cook extrordinaire) Rosa came down with a cold and was out of work for a day. And all the while, we waited for Isy to get it but the breast milk and its antibodies must have been working because he lasted a long time through our bouts with the bug. But, alas, this past saturday he woke up with what I thought was pink eye so we were back at the doctor and fortunately it was just a plugged up nose causing icky yellow mucus to leak out of his eyes. He just has a bit of a cough now but is basically unaffected and is as cute as ever! The smiling boy kept us all going when we each felt sick as a dog.
And although I am so thankful to feel better myself, I am even more thankful that our amazing helpers are back with us and healthy because those days without them were long and oh so exhausting. Of course we are spoiled with so many extra hands around the house very day but it only took one day sans Salvi and Rosa to realize how much they improve the quality of our lives! Let's hope our household will be free from nasty germs for a while...bring on the hand sanitizer...and hopefully Eli will learn to stop licking the handrail in our building's elevator one day soon.
